Preliminary Design Concepts

Update the aesthetic value of the space in consultation with clients to embrace current design trends while using a majority of the clients’ existing furnishings.
Add crown molding with integrated LED strip lights for illuminated ceiling spill around the perimeter of the dining room. Hard wired into existing electrical system, on manual and remote dimmer switch.
Repaint dining room, entryway, and stairway to the second level.
Replace existing 10' X 12' area rug with low pile, stain resistant rug of the same size.
Identify, highlight and decorate a focal point.
Remove ancillary furnishings at the clients' discretion.
Create balanced, unified, asymmetrical display groupings for art and objects.
Guide color palette, furnishings, and materials selection. Coordinate with craftsmen.

Check the condition of the ceiling where LED light will spill. Discuss installation method for even spill, no light dots.
Can the cove lighting be hard wired to existing electric? Does it need a dedicated circuit? Where is the breaker box?
Can the chandelier, recessed lighting and LED lighting be on separate dimmers? What about the scones lights above the fireplace.
Check with contractor re: transom over door - interior electric or plumbing? Can/should the window open for airflow?

Unify dining room and entry. They are contiguous spaces.
Select open field, low-pile, stain resistant, distressed oriental, like the family room rug. Avoid border and medallion as it highlights that the table is off center.
Use existing dining chairs for host and hostess seating or consider parson's chairs in companion fabric. Consider pillows on end or wall tucked chairs.
What about the transom above the kitchen entry? How much light would it add? What would the ROI be?
Consider tapestry or luxury drape at entry to kitchen, balance the weight of the fireplace, add textile feature
Consider art/artifact display above fireplace, hearth-to-ceiling, or mirror-on-mirror option (gilt mirror mounted on top of wall mirror). Expand chandelier and LED lighting impact.
Add fluid, organic shapes and lighter colors to unweight the room of dark wood and scrollwork.
Remove millwork from top of the china cabinet, if possible.
Cover the chandelier cord with textile sheath.
Open the fireplace and add grate with decorative andirons or close opening with screen that completes the wall plane.
All season centerpiece for table, something that works with or without flowers.
